    Cool Power Utilities using Inventor?

I am working with a power Utilities here in nashville implementing Inventor into the substation design department. I was asked yesterday if any other Utilities or Contractors do design where using Inventor to do the design work.

So are any of you using Inventor to design Substations? Mainly the towers, bus, switches, etc...
If not Inventor do you know of anyone using AutoCAD 3D?

We are starting to use AMEP, but at AU, I spoke with a consultant who was using IV to customize solutions for utilities.

Yes sure - just finished developing a 3d cad strategy for substations for a major national Utility company.

The strategy was initially developed in MDT then ported to Inventor when Autodesk dropped MDT development. The strategy included interfacing with Civil 3d and Map3d GIS.

Various VBA utilities were developed and material databases for integration with Procurement.

Demonstrated a project that reduced the average design time from 4 months to 5 days. My contract with that company has finished but I have continued development to facilitate direct integration with manufacturing systems with the intent to further reduce design time to 3 days.
