    Default Plan Production Tools

I am trying to learn this C3D 2009 thing.

I'm a little confused... In Land Desktop, you made an alignment current, loaded a sheet style, made a profile current and generating your sheets, (seemed pretty simple).
Now, in C3D... you have use a template that comes with the software, (not your own). You have to create a sheet set, (that can't be edited or deleted). You have to have a drawing template that doesn't load to create sheets...

I've seen the tutorials, they are very generic... How does everyone else create sheets and use the Plan Production tools in C3D2009? I've heard many people say that they can't figure it out either and they are doing everything manually...

And another thing, when I search phrases like "plan production" or "creating sheets" why don't I get any results? has everyone else figured it out?

Any other links to instructional videos would be great...

You can use your own template for the sheets. Just get a border you like, put it in paperspace. Then make your viewport(s). Sounds like you're doing plan and profiles, so you need 2. Then designate which VP you want as your plan and which you want as your profile (bring up your properties palette and select your VP, on the bottom of the palette there's an option under Viewport to change your VP type). Then save this as a DWT file. You will also have to set the scale of the VPs before you save it as a DWT.

Creating sheets isn't hard, but it seems like it is with all of the things going on. Most of it is done automatically though (like creating a sheet set). After you create your view frames, you go to Plan Production Tools and create your sheets. Follow the steps in there and it'll finish it for you.

    Wow... thanks for the reply.
I have several questions.... I've pretty much did what you talked about, but I plan on deleting the sheet sets I created and starting over.

Question 1. How do I delete the sheet sets I've already created (since they really aren't what I want)????

When I started creating my template previously, I defined my plan viewport as a "PLAN" viewport and my profile as a "PROFILE" viewport, like it says in the tutorial.

Question 2. How do I define the band in my profile?
(the smaller viewport that shows the existing and future elevations).

OK.... I figured out how to delete existing sheet sets that I didn't want. It was easier that I thought... Now onto creating my sheet set. It looks like I have my choice of either basing my sheet sets off another project (which I don't have because I've never used sheet sets)
OR basing my sheet set off of "software loaded sheet sets"... we'll see how that goes.
And then trying to figure out the band viewport...
    Just keeping you posted.

Check out these thread about setting up your own sheetset template.

How do I get fields working with SSM?

    Setting up a Sheet Set

Once you start using sheetsets, I'm sure you'll find that they make handling a project a little bit easier.

Why not create the band with your profile view?

Glenndp.... your link "How do I get fields working with SSM" refers to a post dated 2004-06-04.... is this correct or am I looking at something incorrectly?
My question refers to a 2009 Civil 3D.

Sheet set manager hasn't changed over the last few years so those guide still work with the current version.

Thanks... I wasn't asking about Sheet SET Manager.
I think it was called Sheet Manager in Land Desktop, the command that created the plan & profile sheets with your template.

I think it's called "Plan Production Tools" now...

There have been a fair number of posts recently about Plan Production in the Land Lubber forum at http://www.theswamp.org. You might get more help there. I haven't used Plan Production yet myself, so I'm not much help in that area.
