Loading Family

Since I just started working with Revit ive been trying to find pre-made families online or using the ones that came with the architects model. For instance, i saved an architects quadruplex receptacle in our content folder and loaded it into our model. However, i was not able to place the device into the floor plan, any ideas??

Hey there,

I'm guessing that the family you are trying to place is a wall based family. Since the walls don't reside in your model, you need to pick the "place on face" button on the options toolbar.

I got the receptacle from the Autodesk website. I went to the original architects model and was able to put it on the floor plan. Then, i went to my model and wasnt able to do so. The buttons for face, vertical face arent even available. I dont know whats going on??

The family is a wall hosted family. You will not be able to place it because the walls are not live in your model. You will need to create a face hosted family. Search this group there is plenty of information.
