Create new part from existing part??

I am wanting to make two extra parts for the 48" Slot Diffuser, since there's only a 6" connection currently in the catalog (why Autodesk thought to put only a 6" linear diffuser bewilders me).

I'm trying to go through the Content Builder but not having much luck. I'm getting stumped at the MvPart Builder portion, because I simply want to add an 8" and 10" connector to the existing MvPart that is already created, not create an entirely new slot diffuser. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!!

Hi Tannar,

Buzz will know more about this than I do, but I don't think you can add a new size to a block-based MvPart without building a new model of the part in 3D (bummer, I know). If the part was parametric, it would be a cinch, but the little yellow rectangle and circle next to the part name means it's block-based (parametric parts have a teal cube next to them).

See if Buzz weighs in, but if not, I can post a simple parametric LSD that I've made for our company that should let you pick any size you want.

Brad is absolutely correct. This is why things like air devices, louvers, etc. are probably better being parametric parts instead of mvparts. We just ended up creating our own library of linear slot diffusers and scrapped the OOTB version.

BTW I didn't know about the "block based" and "parametric based" MvParts. So after looking into it, AutoCAD MEP does have a parametric linear slot diffuser, so for now I can continue my mechanical plans. Thanks for all the help guys. Much appreciated.

There you go, I think the only difference between the mvpart version and the parametric part version is that the mvpart version is a little more "pretty" (shows the slots and frame), while the parametric part is just a box.
