    Question Navisworks 2009 & AutoPlant

    Hi all

we are having a viewing problem when creating NWD files from Autocad 2008 and Autoplant XM.
    (Refer image)

We have tried numourous things but to no avail.
We found a post that said we should be installing softare in a particular order.
    - Autocad 2008
    - Navisworks 2009
    - Navisworks 2009 Object Enabler
    - Autoplant XM
    - Autoplant XM Object Enabler
    - Prosteel R18
    - Prosteel R18 Object Enabler

we then set the Navisworks Global Options for DWG loader to be 2004 and 2007 (tried both options) and also
had the Render Type set to Shaded instead of automatic.

After all of this certain parts of the autoplant model are still coming out wireframe, ie pipe lengths, valves etc.
    The Prosett entities are fine.

can anybody shed some light on my issue please as it is most frustrating

    Thanks is advance

    Ian

What does Autoplant's tech support tell you? I'm pointing you there because it appears the other object enablers are working fine. So has Autoplant verified that their OE works will with Navisworks?

This may have changed, but I doubt it, and will come as bad news. The ProSteel and AutoPLANT object enablers are called the same thing and are INCOMPATIBLE with each other! In otherwords, because you installed the ProSteel enabler last it is attempting to use that to show the AutoPLANT components. I'll bet if you uninstall both enablers, then install the ProSteel enabler THEN the AutoPLANT one, the pipe and fittings will show properly but not the steel.

A real victory for custom objects in AutoCAD *grumble*

Best path forward that I know of is for the ProSteel users to periodically export their models to ACIS format and bring those into the NavisWorks rather than the raw ProSteel models.

Who's bright idea was that?! That's a huge violation of developer practice. Each should have their own developer's symbol and avoid this stupidity. (I don't think it's fair to blame Autodesk's approach... this is stupidity from other sources.)

They come from the same company, even though one can't support the other. The object enablers even have the same issue with data dictionary bloating.

We also had been having a heck of a time trying to use AutoPLANT files with Navisworks Review 2009 in our office.

We found a recommendation on the web that suggested we install Review 2009.1 to address this problem. The updated version is apparently only available on disk from AutoDesk. I'm not quite sure why they don't have a revised version available for download from their web site. We were lucky enough to have one copy of this latest version in the office.

After upgrading our installations to Review 2009.1, and installing the latest AutoCAD 2009 object enablers now available from Bentley, the AutoPLANT files are finally opening properly in Navisworks.

    Good Luck!
