Can I create a legend?

I am running Map3D 2009 and, at the request of my employer, have brought in all the .shp files from the map we are creating. We are not up to using an FDO connection at this point, so all the tutorials I've found on creating a legend won't work for me. Is it possible to create a dynamic legend without that? I'm not looking for anything really fancy, just something we can trust to change when we change stuff (layer colors, etc.). Does anyone have any suggestions?

You can if you create styles in the display manager, otherwise you need to draw/create one manually.

I got that (and actually saw a CAD-1 webinar the same day- was this the same?). I am now experiencing a myriad of problems with the software. I'm sure you'll see a post from me in a few minutes.

The ATP course is not the webcast, with out seeing it I can't say if the webcast covered as much as this FastTrack does.

Is it somewhere I can watch now? I definitely want to know as much about this stuff as I can. An interesting thing, we were able to load everything up with data connect, however when creating the legend only some of the things would appear- the graphic representations. For some reason, locking the view scale fixed this.
