What we have done is create a new shared instance parameter called say "AFF". We use that para to drive the height of the 3D object. You will then not use the "Default Elevation" parameter. Create a tag that calls to the "AFF" para. One down side is that if by mistake you use both the default elev and AFF your tag will read only AFF but in 3D the object will be default elev + AFF.

I am interested in this method as i do not want all of the device heights to display. I am fairly new to revit. Can you explain this method in more detail? I see it is an old post.

If you edit the annotation family within the duplex receptacle family, change the label parameter from text to length. Load the annotation back into the receptacle family, select the annotation, go to element properties, link the label parameter to the Default Elevation parameter of the duplex.

This one works perfect for me. Linked with the Autodesk true elevation, however I am having a hard time to convert the "feet" to "inch w/ AFF" at the label
