Default ok is unselectable in hatch

Autocad 06. I cannot get the ok button in hatch to be selectable. I have compared the current drawing hatch variables with another drawing (which hatch works) and cannot find anything in the dialog box that is different. I have been working in the drawing for months and already had successful hatching (which I have tried to match).

I am wondering if there is a setting within the drawing that would effect the hatch dialog box. Any suggestions.

Have you picked either an area or an object to be hatched? The OK button is inactive until you do.

Yes, knowing that boundries can be difficult at times, I created a square and tried to hatch that. I am working in 2d.
