    Thumbs up Navisworks Survival Guide

Navisworks info is so hard to find online, espcially due to the content blocker my emplyer uses. However, I did find a site that had strarted a Survival guide. Sadly it only had 3 entries. Perhaps we could start one.

    Here is my request:

Every user most post at least on cool tip or trick to this thread

    Here is mine:

Remember that Navisworks is dumb, as in it is not smart. It really doesn't anticipate your next move like Revit, picture Navisworks like a lazy sloth. For example if you set the select & search function to geometry you won't get Revit related properties from that item anymore, nor will they appear in your freedom viewer model. To get the revit properties, set the select & search to last object.

Great idea RFB but, I think you need to start more at the beginning than an advanced topic like that.

One that's saved me tons of time is making a template with my batches and rules for clash detection.

Open a new .nwf file, load up all your batches (mech vs arch, etc.), load up any rules you plant to use, then maybe put a simple graffic in there someplace like your company logo in 3D.

Save that as some kind of file you'll know is your template. Mine is called CH2M template.nwf.

When I have to start a new model, first thing I do is append my CH2M template.nwf, then start appending other files to it. Then you can delete the actual template file and your batches and rules will all stay in place.
Give a man AutoCad, and he'll draw you a floor plan.
Give a man Revit and he'll build you a house.
Give Cadmama a couple of drinks and she'll have everyone singing Rockytop!

I wanted to let you know that we have just started a new Autodesk Construction blog called , and your thread here has inspired me to blog about this very issue (a lack of Navisworks info online).

Whilst we fully intend to share as much knowledge that we have, I think it's a great idea for the wider community to contribute and get involved. So we'd welcome you to share any tips & tricks.

Take a look. We've only just started so as a comprehensive survival guide it's not there yet - but with your help we could get there sooner!

    Cheers,
    Paul

    Good Post. But
"Give a man AutoCad, and he'll draw you a floor plan.
Give a man Revit and he'll build you a house."

True with regular AutoCad, but AutoCad Architecture Models a Hosue just as well.

I guess I can add in "Show me an architect that's using Autocad Architecture and I'll show you an architect that's 5 years behind his peers."

Do you have to re-select files/elements in your clash test each time you create/append new .nwc files?
