    Default Family Template

    Hi,

I'm new to revit. I have so much to learn!

I'm trying to create a new window family, but when I open the window family template file, I know the file automatically gives me the window height dimension (circled in RED in my attachment).
But when I delete this default dimension (Height=6'-0"), and edit my window height under PROPERTIES > FAMILY TYPE, the height of the window doesn't change automatically.
Does anyone know how I can get this default dimension back when I accidentally delete it?
I know "undoing" by deletion is one way, but I just want to know how to add it back on properly if I do delete it.

Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

That default height parameter was driving where the reference planes were. Don't delete that dimension. It's driven by that parameter.
    At least that's my assumption.

    1. With the elevation view in the family open and current, on the Annotate ribbon tab, on the Dimension panel, choose the Aligned tool.
    2. Place an aligned dimension between the two reference planes that define the Window height (replacing the deleted dimension).

    3. Select the newly created aligned dimension.
    4. On the Modify|Dimensions contextual ribbon tab, on the Label Dimension panel, choose the Label drop-down list.

    5. Find the Height parameter on the list and select it.
    6. The dimension is now labeled with the Height parameter, and changes to the parameter will change the dimension.
