    Default snap

    I've just snapped!
    Seriously, riddle me this batman............
I have a set of stairs as an element. I then have my stairs xref'd into my construct, and my construct into a view. Easy so far, but how come I can't snap to my stairs in the view or the construct, but I can in the element? It's driving me crazy. I can't even get a reliable distance without the snap working.

I also have some other stairs as constructs, and I either can't snap to them, or the snaps are very few, sometimes snapping in the middle of space when it should be endpoint. AND I even have some tool racks and oil display shelves as elements, and I can only snap to certain parts of them. All are made up of structural members.

    Any ideas?

I know this isn't the first time this topic has come up.
Here's a few threads that I found in the ACA forum.
Hope it helps. Those stair objects have always kind of been a little sketchy.

See, the ONE time I don't do a forum search first, there's topics on it already.
    Thanks David.

I'm guessing it has something to do with my Z elevation. For example, I'm working on my basement view. In PN, its set up at -8'. The tool board I mentioned is only about 2' tall, but it's mounted to the runners in the basement ceiling, so it's 6' off the ground. I'm guessing that because the vertical poles don't touch the ground, I can't snap to them. That still doesn't explain why the stairs don't snap, though. They are on the ground. I'm sure I have something messed up in PN somewhere.

Well, I just checked the finished floor plan, and 2 of the 3 stairs snap correctly. I think it's a Z elevation thing, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

Can you get your snaps to work in a 3D view? I've found that sometimes things work better that way. Set your display to be 3d wire frame, regen and you may get better results.

Yep, they seem to work in 3D view.

Well at least you can get your distances then. I think part of the problem is that the plan object is a 2d plan/block almost. So I think that ACA in general has a hard time with the stair objects. I will say that they have improved greatly since R3. Back then they were one of the most clumbsey objects ADT had. IMHO they stiff have a lot more work needed to get them to react the way I'd like them to.

I agree. If it wasn't for doing building secions through the stairwell, I wouldn't use them. It sure is nice to not have to draw them in section, though. Ahhhhh, the joys of ACA...........
