Since this UI is most likely here to stay, it would benefit everyone to get on this thing now and get comfortable with it. I would be highly surprised if the factory went back to the old UI in 2011, so even if 2011 has improvements that people actually want, you might as well get familiar with using this UI now.

    Excellent point.
Though most people here are using Classic UI on AutoCAD2009. Their passphrase: "why change a winning team". They'll find out why when we upgrade to Windows 7 in a few years and ribbons are the only viable option for AutoCAD2012.

Not all change is good, new isn't always better. But I say Darwin's law applies. The offices with the best potential to adapt are the most likely to survive and this isn't much different. But that doesn't mean that we as the user community are going to like it or that Autodesk as a software manufacturer couldn't have made a Revit 2010 that we are going to like better. Things being as they are we'll have to deal with it, and put up or shut up.

I'll go out on a limb and say that I think the Ribbon (at least as we see it in 2010) makes it harder to find the cheese. I really don't think the Ribbon makes sense for Revit's workflow. I think at the very least, the Ribbon needs to be changed significantly so that tools appear in consistent locations.

I find that the Ribbon is distracting, and reduces my productivity: others are having various results. A few are reporting improvements in their productivity. Many are noting that they are making many more clicks and mouse moves with the Ribbon; I would think this be more the norm for experienced users.

Our user community is justifiably confused and upset by the change, but hopefully everyone will give it a good go and give objective feedback after a few months. I quite agree that we need to look at the new UI with the attitude of I'll try it: this could be interesting. That was my attitude when I first starting to use the Ribbon. Sadly, having used the Ribbon for several weeks, I don't think it works: it's too dynamic. I'm hoping we'll have some good discussions on AUGI about where the UI might go from here.

I'm also disappointed in the new features being released, but I suspect that this cycle represents an infrastructure upgrade that will provide the potential for future features.

While some are reporting display degradation from v2009 (which was 30% slower than v200, we are seeing display performance on par with 2008 on Vista and XP Pro. This is very good news. We also welcome the spot slope tool, and the other improvements noted will all benefit our firm's work.

The new massing tools are of no consequence to us, but I hope they fix the throwaway nature of form making as the iterative process you had in 2009 is gone; so we are going to MISS the old massing workflow!

All-in-all, I too am finally wondering why some of the most significant wishes made here on AUGI have not been added -- site and text tools, for example. Perhaps off AUGI these wishes are not as popular; otherwise I can't entirely figure out the dearth of new features that address our wishes.

I was always somewhat dubious of the effectiveness of the wish list process, and I can now say that my doubts are confirmed. I really don't see why anyone would take this (wish list) seriously anymore. I don't blame Autodesk for having their own agenda, I just think they should be more open about it. I don't think they should allow users to spend their spare time reviewing, posting and voting on wishes if they have no intention of implementing any of them.

I thought the wishlist process is done by AUGI which is not affiliated with Autodesk. I thought Autodesk has no obligation to grant any wishes under their End User License Agreement. As a former AutoCAD user, nothing surprises me with the disappointment with new releases.

The chesse didn't move. We have the same old features. What I'm hearing from users is a more appropriate quote: "Where's the beef?"

    Elevation tags still blow chunks.

Having had the program on my machine for a few days now, I am still pretty much of the view that the performance improvements make it an OK release. I think I graded it at C- earlier in the thread. However, I have now also installed AutoCad 2010 - which is part of my subscription and since that installation, Revit 2010 has been acting up quite a bit.

I don't really know if it was the installation of AC2010 which is the cause of the current issues or not, but Revit will no longer shut down cleanly and leaves a tiny little black square in the top right hand corner of my monitor which just hangs there until I right click and find an error message which reads: Revit has stopped working - click here to shut down now" etc.

This, along with the earlier problems of the splash screen error message and, it attemting to reinstall itself (or part thereof) if I want to change the view in a folder from details to thumbnails, leads me to put it away for now, let the boffins sort out whatever the heck are the problems and I will stick with 2009 until these (and judging by Patricks post) other problems are sorted and the program is stable.

    Cheers,

    Ian

Revit, from what I have seen the past few releases at least, has always somewhat of a ribbon functionality, it was just vertical, on the left and called "Design Bar" that is dynamic and changes with the function or command you are using. Having not much time in the new version, and just seeing videos and live demo's it actually seems very logical so far, but that may change when I actually start working in it.
