Default RST2010 Keyboard Shortcuts Development via Excel

Please find attached an Excel spreadsheet I am using for development of RST 2010 Keyboard Shortcuts. As many have discovered, many commands are repeated over and over as they exist on different ribbon menus. As such, developing a workable list is difficult since duplicate commands can easily get different key assignments as one moves about in a text file with over 1,400 lines.

Within this XLS - the blue area is what one copies to a true TXT file. The green area is where one customizes to their own desires. The orange area contains a list of ribbon entries but without the duplication. To the right of the green area is the out-of-the-box shortcuts.

For any given row, the XLS will use the OOTB entry until a custom one is created. As custom entries are made, they are checked against the entire list for duplicate keycuts. If a duplicate is found above, it then checks against the ribbon placement. If the ribbon is the same, the new keycut is left as is. If the ribbon is different, the keycut is made red.

In a nutshell (I may have confused you more just then), you start out with OOTB keycuts. You find a command you want to customize and do so. Soon as you do that, all matching commands below get that same customization (superceding their own line OOTB entry). And if you use the duplicate removed column for commands, you never will have to "look" at already adjusted commands.

I have placed a couple sample conditions in the custom column to show this functionality. The big thing here is, green is good, red is bad. Now I will say there are some commands that are duplicated in ribbon form but with different ribbon strings - so in some cases red can be right (same command but different ribbon strings). Sigh...not sure what else I can do about that. When you find red cells, investigate and perhaps override if needed.

Comments are welcome. I have started a new thread for this to 1) restrict topic to the XLS and 2) to keep track when future RST versions are released.

    David

Thanks for sharing~ I was in the process of trying to reformat the original shortcut reference sheet I made for 2008 and had got this far when I saw your posting on your blog.

    [Project shortcuts]

    Home tab ~ BM,WA,CL,SB,BR,BS,FT,CM,GP,LL,GR,RP
    Insert tab ~ None
    Annotate tab ~ DI,EL, DL,GP,TX,F7,TG
    Modify tab ~ MD,MA,AL,TR,SL,OF,CP,RC,LW,SF,PT
    Analyze tab ~ LD,AA,RA
Architect & Site tab ~ None
    Collaborate tab ~ RL,RW,ER
    View tab ~ VP,VG,VV,TL,WC,WT
    Manage tab ~ SU,UN

    [Model family editor shortcuts]

    Create tab ~ CM,GP,RP
    Insert tab ~ None
    Detail tab ~ GP,DI,TX,F7
    Modify tab ~ MD,MA,AL,TR,SL,OF,GP,PT,SF
    View tab ~ VP,VG,VV,TL,WC,WT
    Manage tab ~ UN
    Family Editor tab ~ None

    [Annotation family editor shortcuts]

    Create tab ~ LI,GP,DI,TX,F7
    Insert tab ~ None
    Modify tab ~ MD,MA,AL,TR,SL,OF,GP

    etc. etc etc....

Some of the logic behind the initials has gone especally for us UK users now a coping is a notch

CP was CoPing now its Notching which has nothing to do with CP
RC was Remove Coping its now Notching Remove
SB was Structural SlaB but now it's Structural Floor ??????

There appear to be a few new shortcuts and a few that seem to have dropped of the map

Theres more but I have only just started looking....

I have a interest - in file "keybordshortcut.txt" defined all customizet ribbons conent?
For example - I wish define some keibords for comand "Edit boundary".
It not possible or somewhere we can find some not defined ribon commands?

    Thank you.

    Super

Only thing I added is filter on top row. It makes easier to manage and go through the list.
    For example
Now i can filter by color, to look for those red things.
Or i can hide commands without shortcut
    an etc

    It made me thinking.
Are duplicate shortcuts good or bad?
Is Revit faster if i remove them?
Or Revit just scans to the first one and that's it, in this case it should have less to scan if i remove duplicates.
    Or am I missing something?

Excel is a very powerful tool with lots of options. This one was cleaned up to make as user friendly as possible. In mine I create a numbered column to the right and then resort by various methods. One could sort by ribbon string, thus bringing together matching commands (that exist on different ribbons) and keycut as needed. The numbered column then can be used to resort properly.

My gut says the size of the file will only impact loading up the first time. Revit does take memory to store all that you put in but I can't see that being a noticable impact.

That isn't native in RST but using the API one could create a program that does that. I don't "API" unfortunately.

That's a pretty good method! I was going to tape images of the ribbon to my screen and overlay the keycut text on each button... your's is simplier.
