Default Saving to earlier version, STB to CTB

Making the jump to Civil 3d with CAD pilot's killer styles, and I just had a thought hit me. Laying out a new plan set and tweaking everything so it looks pretty with the new STB plot style. Always used a CTB up until this point, and I can see how the STB is going to be a lot more flexible.

It did get me wondering though. Since all the linework and lineweights in this plan set are now dependant on which layer the item is on, instead of the color of the item...

When I export this to an earlier version of CAD...I'm wondering if I am going to see random lineweights based on the object colors.

Will earlier versions of vanilla CAD be able to use the STB file from 2010 to plot the drawings or should I rethink what I'm doing...?

I know the magic word to convert plot style from STB to CTB...but....you see where I'm headed here?

    Thanks,
    Dave

I can't say for sure, but STB has been around for quite a few versions, so I wouldn't think there'd be an issue.

Wish I would have tried to use them sooner...but every other employer has been using the CTB. I've got a little more flexibility right now, I'm the only one in the office with Civil installed until we get the styles and settings pinned.

Dave, the format of the STB and CTB files has been unchanged since AutoCAD 2000. So as long as you provide the STB file you will be able to plot it fine in older versions of AutoCAD.

Man, that's a kick in the pants. I could have been using these things for years...? They seem a lot more useful, if you have good organizational abilities. Could create a heck of a mess too though...

Glad to hear I'll be able to send the stb file same as the ctb then....very cool.

Yup, they've only been around for a decade.

I find that they are less messy than CTB files. I have less than 10 plot styles with which to deal.
