Layer State Manager

I have a drawing w/ multiple tabs, each tab w/ a drawing that has multiple viewports. These viewports have various different combinations of layers that are frozen/thawed. I would like to take a "snapshot" of the entire drawing file that remembers the various frozen/thawed states of all the different viewports on all the different tabs. The layer state manager doesn't seem to do this - it seems to remember global settings, like which layers are on or off, but not viewport by viewport freeze/thawed settings.(Although, curiously, these states are remembered in the drawing file - whay can't I take advantage of this to name a file-wide state?) I thought this was the whole purpose of the layer state manager tool. Please help, I'm obviously misunderstanding something!

I think you can save a state for any viewport or modelspace, but not an entire drawing.

Let's say you took a "snapshot" and AutoCAD saved the state ot 21 viewports in 11 layouts. How can you apply that to any other drawing? How would AutoCAD know what settings to apply to what layout? to what viewport?

You can however, save states of a viewport, and apply that to other viewports.
