    Default DWFx Crash

I traditionally use a dwfx as an export from Revit into Navisworks. With the 2012 version, some of the contractors files are giving me this message "File does not exist or cant be opened" "No 3D geometry found in the file" Error code: 16388.

If I open the file independently it is fine. It just will not refresh into the NWF.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

I've also encountered this problem. Unfortunately i'm not sure what the cause is. I have an on site colleague who sends me exported revit files as .dwf and if i overwrite and replace the old files i get the error.

The only solution i have is to append the file rather than overwriting and replacing the old one. This will definately slow down your work flow if you've already created selection sets and what not since you'll have to essentially redo work you've already done

Maybe there are some settings which need to be checked before exporting from revit? Any revit experts out there?

When testing this new feature with a single DWF file with about 36 2D sheets exported from Revit and about 26MB in size, when file was inserted into 2012, Navisworks created NWCs of each DWF and when I published to an NWD, the file size was over 800MB.

What is the problem here? It doesn't seem to be working properly. Anyone else having an issue with loading 2D DWFs? I do not see very good documentation on best practices for using this new feature.

    Hi Art & Andy,

Thanks for your participating in our community. This is a known issue for Navisworks 2012. We have reported this to our development team, and try to fix it.
For now, as Andy said, you can append the file rather than overwriting and replacing the old one.

    Hi Aaron,

DWF is a highly compressed file format. After publishing it into NWD, it will contain more information than DWF. So the file size is bigger than DWF.
However, the file size of your publisehd NWD is so big. Can you share your test file with us for further investigation if possible? My email is wayne.zhu@autodesk.com.

    Hope this helps.

Has anyone found a fix to this? I am currently running into the same problems as the original poster.

The fix is to not use DWFx at all. Its horible and painful to use in Navisworks. Use the Navisworks exporter. Make sure you have the same project base point across all models in Revit. When you do the export all should be well. When you make an NWD, the file will be email lite!

    Angry Re: DWFx Crash

    Any luck solving this problem?
I have the exact same problem, so far the only way to solve it is before I open the NWF file, I move the dwfx files to another folder so navis don't find it, then I ignore the message don't find the file. Then I have to insert it again, the problem is, next day I have to repeat the same thing every time I open it, the other problem is that is not one file, they are several files.
The weirdest thing is sometimes is exported correctly and opens just fine.
Please give me a buzz if you find the solution.
    Thanks

I've been on Navisworks everyday since November importing Revit files which give me some credibility when I say DWFx's are **** in Navisworks and should be avoided at all costs.

The NWC Exporter is the answer. Go to autodesk university and watch the webcast CR422-1: Introducing Navisworks Manage presented by Matt Stachoni. Navisworks will open up after that.

I think I may have found a workaround for this. Compile the NWF using the 2011 versoin. Then upgrade the NWF to 2012. It will then work as expected in 2012. There are some issues (not least of which is that you have to have Navisworks 2011 available to you.)

You can learn more through my blog post.

    Hi Guys

Thanks to Eriks Blog I came across this thread.
I have being having problems of my own, but it was on the NWC export out of Revit.
I will refer you to the following thread:
    http://www.revitforum.org/coordinati...copeboxes.html

In a nut shell if you want to export partial models in Revit to NWC and you are using scope boxes to do this, the integrity of the model is not maintained.

I have been in some detailed discussions with Autodesk, and they are currently asking me to put a business case forward to prioritise the resolution of the issue.
Exporting a model level by level of a large facility is Clash detection 101, so why it needs a business case for prioritising I don't know.

Autodesks suggestion workaround was to use DWF files. Now I not a fan of dwf files in Navisworks, as they have been very buggy in the past (scale issues and coming in on their side), they also don't contain all the original meta data (no type parameters), and switch back does not work with DWF files.

Going of this thread, it seems we cannot rely on DXF files anyway. Eriks workaround is very good, but I don't know how realistic it is on a large complex ever changing project.

As Autodesk are now only starting to commit to IFC and the 2012 IFC export is very average in comparison to its competitor vendor applications, are we stuck with 30 year old DWG exports? As much as I love Navisworks Manage, I finding it very difficult to find workfows that will really work?
To be honest Autodesk need to be very careful on these kinds of items, as they can get themselves into litigation very easily with false advertising.

So from the above to substantial bugs:
Do anyone have a Revit export level by level clash detection workflow that is practicable and has field tested it?

    Cheers
    Brian
