Everything comes in black and there must be something from Revit that causes that...
Anyone has the same problem? This happens no matter what settings I use...
Can it be because my materials in Revit have not (all of them) render appearance?

Yes--your Materials must include a Render appearance, otherwise there is nothing to export via FBX for Max to pick up.
cheers
Isn't there a Generic render appearance by default? A grey default material like all other renderers? Like Max mental Ray?
Anyway, no matter what I do, I can't make Max understand Revit mats...
Also, when I render with Max, some mats are ok, some other stay black... The daylight system doesn't work well too...
I hope someone can help me with this...
As I understand it, RAC 2011 and 3dsMax 2011 now both share the new "Protein 2 Materials", which I believe are now called "Autodesk Materials" in Max.
I have exported out my model RAC 2011 via FBX, Linked into 3dsMax Design 2011,
and the Materials ALL came across perfectly. The new File Linking for FBX is a great workflow enhancement.
I'm not sure what you are doing wrong. It is a very simple process.
When you open the Max file, the materials from Revit should all be there and display
correctly. We usually delete the Revit daylight system and replace it in Max.
Also, the new Protein 2 Materials will NOT work with Max 2010 or earlier versions--
only with Max 2011--so if you were "upgrading" and older model, this could be the problem?
cheers.......
OK, I just discovered that there are two things that mess up my scene...
1. The maps used in Revit materials come into Max with zero brightness... Also for the materials that don't use a map, the color is black, no matter what I choose in Revit...
So, if I change this and press the "show standard map in viewport" button it becomes ok... but this is too bad because I have to correct every material and every map and color of the materials... so there is no automatic reading of materials...
It looks very strange, what could possibly cause this?
Just to clarify:
Are you using RAC 2011 and 3dsMax Design 2011?
If so, did you begin the Revit project in RAC 2011? Or was it "upgraded"
from RAC 2010?
This could be the problem, due to incompatibility of MR Protein 1 and Protein 2 materials.
cheers
I have RAC2011, MaxDesign2011 and yes, I just made some walls and a floor, in RAC2011.
I also have RAC2010 installed but I don't think this matters...
I forgot to say that I uninstalled and re-installed RAC2011 but nothing changed...
Btw, I also have MaxDesign 2010 installed because of Maxwell - the 2011 plugin is not ready yet - but I installed the trial MaxDesign2011 and RAC2011 to my other PC and everything is the same, so there must be something else and not an installation problem.
Tried out making a floor and some walls in Revit 2011 and then file linking in 3ds Max Design 2011 using FBX. Adjusted the exposure control then rendered with mental ray. Everything seems to work fine.
Works fine here too. Something is wrong with the install or the material library locations. Or one of the programs isnt pointing to the right library, although i didnt think you could change that, much to my chagrin.
